New box set explores the roots of soul music

History of Soul Records have announced the release of From Sacred To Secular: A Soul Awakening for 27th November.

The eight CD set is “a comprehensive overview from 1927 to 1963, cover(ing) the genesis of soul music, tracing connections between R&B, jazz and blues, and gospel, the secular and the sacred.” Artists featured include Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Mahalia Jackson and many more.
